Ink Or Crayons

Published on Tuesday, July 27, 2010.

It's been quite a while since I have sat down and "blogged". Porter County Government will soon release their new website and that has been the consumption of my time.

This evening I had to run to the store to pick up some NyQuil. The good news is that I have almost fully recovered from a miserable sinus infection / summer cold that has left my waste basket full and running over with used tissue. The bad news is my wife now has the same symptoms (surely she didn't get it from me), and having used the last drop of NyQuil, it was time to replenish the stock for her.

NyQuil in hand, I am waiting in line to check out and in the next row over is this boy who I would say was approximately eight years old. It wasn't his mohawk haircut though that caught my attention but rather his tattoo. Yes, a real tattoo running around his arm at short-sleeve length. I can understand hair cuts and colors because once a child tires of the fad it is easy to change and move on. But a tattoo? A child that age has no real idea what he is doing.

I anxiously await your feedback. Am I old-fashioned? Is it true my last birthday has put me over the edge? Or should parents wait until their child is out on their own to decide if the way earrings and tattoos?
